Do I need to provide anything myself?
When you book your stage makeup at Moon Stagemake-up, you don’t need to bring anything yourself. Everything you need for your complete stage look will be provided, even your eyelashes!

You take a seat in my makeup chair, I’ll take care of the rest.

Do you have any other questions? I’d be happy to schedule a virtual call with you to discuss and get to know eachother.
Can I book a trial make-up session in advance?
A trial makeup session is definitely possible.
Since this is likely your first competition experience or you’re considering working with me for the first time, I’m happy to walk “new” athletes through the entire Moon Stagemake-up experience. We’ll do this in advance during an online call so we can get to know each other. During this call, we can discuss your competition, your desired look, and any questions you may have. During our first meeting, we can decide together whether you’d like a trial makeup session and when that would work best for you.
How do I prepare my face for the best makeup results?
Beautiful, even stage makeup starts with well-prepared and soothed skin. Follow these steps to help achieve the best possible result:
- Have your eyebrows professionally trimmed and shaped in advance; I cannot conceal hairs that grow outside your natural eyebrow shape with makeup
- Thoroughly cleanse your face in the morning and arrive at your appointment without any makeup on. I’ll provide serums and creams that will enhance your stage look as much as possible.
- Take care of your skin in the weeks leading up to your appointment by using a mild cleanser and keeping your skin well-hydrated.
- If desired, use a gentle scrub and/or a hydrating mask a few days in advance.
- Have any noticeable light hairs—such as those above the upper lip—removed well in advance.
- Do you have more light hair growth on your face? Dermaplaning can help smooth the skin. Have this done by a specialist to avoid any surprises.
- If your prep routine is causing dry lips, apply Vaseline to your lips every night before bed for a few days in advance
- Avoid eyelash extensions if possible. Have them removed so that eyelashes that suit your look can be applied
Don’t schedule professional treatments like waxing, dermaplaning, or other more intensive skin treatments right before your competition. This gives any redness or sensitivity enough time to heal or clear up.
On the day of the competition, please do not apply any cream, oil, serum, or self-tanner to your face. This will allow me to apply your stage makeup beautifully, evenly, with long-lasting results.
If you do have concerns about sensitive skin, I’d be happy to schedule a video call with you to discuss how we can address this together in the lead-up to your big day.
Can I wear eyelash extensions when you apply the Moon Stagemake-up look?
Of course you can, though I’d prefer you not to. Most athletes with eyelash extensions have heavy, thick lashes. Which completely hide the eye make-up behind their lash extensions. I can’t apply stage lashes over them either. So I recommend removing the eyelash extensions before your competition day. Don’t worrythey’ll be replaced with beautiful stage lashes that are perfect for your stage look. Feel free to check out my portfolio to get an idea of the kind I use. There's also a clear example of a female athlete wearing eyelash extensions. Based on this, you can compare and decide what you like best.
Can I tan my face before you apply my makeup?
Never tan your face. Don’t use pre-tanning products on your face either. This texture on your skin will make your makeup look different and prevent it from staying in place. The result: combining tanning with foundation will cause your face to appear gray or green under those stage lights.
A tip: If you’re doing your own tanning, use a roller to blend the tanning from the base of your neck up to your jawline. This way, it blends seamlessly with the matching foundation. If you’re having the tanning done by a professional tanning team at the competition venue, you have two options:
Tanning before makeup: Ask your tanner not to tan your face but to include a small area of your neck in the tanning. They know exactly how to gently tan and blend your neck so it can be blend seamlessly with your makeup.
Tanning after wearing makeup: They’ll see that you have a beautiful stage makeup look on your face, so you’ll turn your face away from the tanning spray. If some tanning spray accidentally lands on your face, don’t panic. It won’t do any harm.
Should I get my makeup done before or after tanning?
That doesn’t make any difference at all. With years of experience, I know which tanning products are used. I also take a close look at the person sitting in my chair, their skin color and undertone. Based on that, we match the perfect shade.
Keep in mind, your face won’t be given the same level of darkness as your body. It will always be a few shades lighter. Contouring adds depth to your face, ensuring everything is beautifully balanced and your stage look will be gorgeous!
Where will the makeup be applied?
The location depends on where the competition will take place. I often book a hotel close to the competition venue. I take the distance into account (maximum 5" by car). If there isn’t a hotel nearby, I’ll bring a mobile makeup trailer to the venue so you can have your makeup done as close to the event as possible. As soon as the event schedule is finalized, I’ll organize the makeup schedule and let you know the exact location via email. That way, you can continue to fine-tune your big day. Please know that you can always reach out to me via email or WhatsApp if something in the schedule isn’t working out or if you’re having any difficulties.
I already know which competition I'm going to enter, but I can't find it listed among the competitions?
I have two possible answers to this question:
- Either the date of the competition hasn’t been announced yet, so I haven’t posted it on the website. In that case, it’s best to send me an email so I can add you to the list. As soon as the date is announced, I’ll post the competition on my website and send you an email so you can secure your spot online.
- Or, you may see that all competitions are listed, but that specific one isn’t listed. That means I won’t be participating in that competition. Feel free to contact me via WhatsApp or email to be sure. It’s also possible that I made a mistake when entering the competitions.
I need to choose a time slot for my make-up, but I have no idea what time I'm supposed to go on stage?
These time slots were primarily created to ensure a maximum number of spots. I choose to take enough time for each athlete. So the time slot you choose six months to a year in advance isn’t necessarily set. Once the final schedule for the competition is confirmed, I’ll check if any adjustments are needed. Depending on the running order, your scheduled time may remain the same or change. At every competition, I make sure every athlete can move around, check in, eat and drink on time, get enough rest, and so on.
So choose the time slot that feels best for you. Are the time slots limited? Then it’s best to choose whatever’s still available.
I have to get my makeup done so early, but I don't go on stage until late at night. What should I do?
Don’t worry about this at all. My Moon Stage Makeup technique ensures that your makeup will stay on for up to 24 hours. There are athletes who have even gone to sleep with their makeup on because they had a photo shoot scheduled for the next day. I don’t recommend it because you have to cleanse your skin at night, because your skin repairs itself at that stage.
But if something does goe wrong with your makeup during the day, the Moon Stagemake-up kit comes to the rescue. I’ll give this to you after applying your makeup. It includes a hand mirror, powder, lipstick with an applicator, spare eyelash glue, a makeup sponge, and a powder puff.
